standing inside of f. scott fitzgerald's room at the grove park inn

today we took a tour of f. scott fitzgerald's rooms at the grove park inn, where he stayed while zelda was in highland hospital. the inn itself has the best view of asheville we've seen so far. tomorrow we're going back for dinner and another tour. is this what old people do on vacation? suits us just fine.

asheville day one

today i ate real food; i'm so excited i have to type about it. !

a vegan chicken salad sandwich made of tofu in sweet chile sauce, green apples, blueberries, and granola on a sourdough bun. on the side there was spicy avocado soup.

after that we went to the chocolate lounge, i had 'indian' drinking chocolate with rose and cardamom. i drank half my four ounce cup. he couldn't finish his teacup of chocolate pots-de-creme. m is a dear with the greenest eyes!

we went swimming and then back to the chocolate lounge for a 'jitterbug', apparently some nutty coffee-chocolate five-dollar-version-of-a-frappuccino- it was probably worth three and a half, and a headache.

now off to bed
tomorrow shops and downtown
hopefully we'll go to the historic district soon, i'm dying to see the old site (now apartments and offices) of highland hospital and dr. carrols 'castle', homewood

gears

i'm going to ramble a bit about what has been on my mind lately:

INTERIOR DECORATING
STUFF
DECORATING
EXTERIOR
ORIGINAL ATOMIC HARDWARE
BIG CHILL FRIDGE
1963 MID CENTURY MODEST RANCH

i figure since i haven't been writing, i'll do some arts and crafts projects around the house we're moving into..

--post card table-- i need a rectangular coffee table with a glass cut top so i can put postcards (preferably 1908-1919) picture side up and alternate with the message side up. our den has wood paneling (that i refuse to paint -- one day you'll all be crying at your tacky obvious painted-over paneling)! and mine will be beautiful and original to the house..................

--'retablo' paintings.. in little ornate frames, painted with gold leaf. i'd like to do one of zelda fitzgerald and maybe lois moran to be scandalous for good measure. also one of frank o'hara and for sure camille claudel. these will go in the master half bath so there's no need for them to be recognizable to guests.

i'd really rather be writing poems, i swear, but lately i blah blah blah.

p.s. the best before bedtime activity is reading harry potter with your significant other. you can even get it online. last night we left off at the part where harry drops his lantern in the restricted section of the library. i felt scared when m said "let's leave off here for tonight" and then remembered i wasn't inside the book and i had someone to curl up with after a long day of moving furniture.
